I have known Prakash Bal Joshi for over 10 years now. A journalist, author and artist, his evolution and transformation has been in that order. I have presented his paintings in two solo exhibitions – one at Indiaart Gallery, Pune and the other at Hotel Leela Kempinski at Bangalore. Abstract art is his chosen genre. His art has evolved and expanded in the scope of sensitive themes that he handles which include climate change, human consciousness and artificial intelligence.

Early work on Climate Change

His early work was a rather strong statement on climate change. I remember his painting depicting the Mithi river at Mumbai being squeezed out, another painting where he depicted threatened rivers in an unusual yellow colour. In fact, during the art exhibition which I had presented at Indiaart Gallery at Pune, we had a very informative talk by Dr. Sharad Rajguru on the mystery of river Saraswati which is said to have vanished due to extreme changes in climate.

In search of Saraswati, talk by Dr. Sharad Rajguru

On the sidelines of his exhibition of abstract paintings on climate change, environment, urbanisation and water, we presented a talk by archaeologist Dr. Sharad Rajguru on the subject “In search of Saraswati”

Here is a brief video clip from this talk on the legendary Saraswati river.

New series – Artificial Intelligence

In the last few years, Prakash Bal Joshi has been painting themes related to human mind and consciousness. His latest series is very contemporary in its context. His new paintings are based on the theme of artificial intelligence.
In recent years, I have seen his paintings at few shows and have been impressed with the way he has used Blue.

The magic of Blue

May be I will do a series with Prakash Bal Joshi some day on the theme Blue. Hope that happens sooner than later. Blue represents higher faculties, wisdom and thoughtfulness. The real magic of the colour blue lies in the many shades of blue and its interpretations and associations. When we think of blue in different shades and hues, we think of the infinite sky, the blue ocean, the lakes and the rivers. Blue is thus associated with depths and the same applies for mind, thinking and intelligence. Blue also denotes coolness. However, for me, the association with things deep, mystical and unknown is fascinating.
