Kathak dancer Prerana Shrimali
Khula Aasmaan created two videos with eminent Kathak dancer Prerana Shrimali. These have been created specially for the children, young students, parents and teachers. In the first video, Prerana Shrimali, talks about her career and journey as a performing artist. In the second video, she reaches out to parents and teachers. She makes a strong case for the role of arts and its importance in life. She further impresses upon us to encourage arts and support our children in expressing themselves through various art forms.

About Prerana Shrimali
Prerana Shrimali is a senior kathak dancer of Jaipur gharana of Kathak. She received her training in dance from Guru Shri Kundanlal Gangani. She is a recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2009. She is also the recipient of Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Akademi Award apart from being an awardee of the Raza foundation.

She keeps adding to her Kathak repertoire by choreographing new and highly acclaimed compositions based on poetry. Furthermore, she explores the verses of Kalidas, Amaru, Meera, Kabir, Padmakar, Ghalib, French poet Yves Bonnefoy, and others. She is a firm believer of exploring possibilities that Kathak offers.
She has travelled widely in India and abroad. She has been invited as a performing artist at all the major dance festivals in India, such as at Khajuraho and at several international festivals such as Festival D’Avignon, France. She has been teaching Kathak for many years. She has written on ‘Kathak and Abstraction’. She received senior fellowship from Government of India for this project. For two years, she has been the Repertory Chief of Kathak Kendra, Delhi. Prerana Shrimali is based at Delhi.
