Comments by Chitra Vaidya

This is what artist and art teacher Chitra Vaidya has to say about this art workshop :

“I love to paint the light and shadows at the different times of the day. When the sunlight falls on the objects , it creates a dramatic effect.  The whole composition becomes interesting. In this video, I got attracted to the effect of sunlight on the trees and plants in the courtyard , the lamp at the gate and the greenery outside. The   whole composition is of
various shades of greens.
I did pencil drawing with minimum lines on handmade paper. Then I covered some area with a  wax creyon. Wax creyon acts as masking for water colour painting. Those parts remain covered and the background washes can be done freely. I started painting with transparent washes of water colours. It is so nice to see the colours flow freely on the paper. That’s the speciality of water colour medium.
Starting with light colour washes, the painting goes step by step to dark colours maintaining the contrast. Delicate brush strokes of leaves , warm colour plant, dark stem of the tree and the lamp makes the landscape interesting.”

Artist and art educator Chitra Vaidya’s comments on this painting workshop in Marathi :
